Students will be able to link
their prior knowledge with new knowledge to gain a deeper understanding of what
they have read. They will make connections to what they are reading
and learning. Students will be able to interpret and apply the knowledge
they get from what they are reading. They will learn to transfer this new
knowledge to new learning.
I will be able to tell if the intervention is working though desegregating the comprehension
benchmark tests improvement. I will also be able to get an idea from
reading the blogs and analyzing how the students are recounting their own
learning.
Students not only need to activate their prior knowledge they need to use all the Facets of Understanding. Students need to apply the their knowledge to new situations and be able to explain how the
informations relevant. They need to be aware of their own learning a be able to see the authors perspective. In this project I will try my best to apply all the facets to give the students a deeper understanding.
The content or Common Core Standards that I need to teach the students will be interwoven in every lesson. I can not loose site of what I need to teach
I will use the learning cycle that two colleagues and I
developed and used throughout last year to evaluate misconceptions. (diagram 1
below)
The assessments that I will use are already in place. Buena Vista School District has benchmark tests and progress monitoring assessments. Aimsweb is the district's testing service for both benchmark and progress monitoring. I will also
compare the study island results to the results from the last two years. I will use observations and surveys to check for understanding. The students will also blog three times a week about their
learning.
Technology will play a big role in this project. I will use Mp3 players, a
Coby Kyros and two Kindle Touch tablets that I will purchase from a grant. My
classroom is the technology lab so I have 32 computers, ten laptops and an
Einstuction board (similar to a smart board). I will also use a variety of web
2.0 tools.
